This week’s focus is mental wealth. The holiday season is quite stressful for many Americans. The pressure of providing gifts, the expectation of holiday parties and family meetups, the lack of child-care, end-of-year expenses, end of insurance cycle, and many more issues. Even though, I don’t recommend binge watching, but sometimes it is relaxing to sit on the couch and watch some popular shows for a few hours to breakup your busy lifestyle.

Netflix with ads is only $6.99 a month. I will be providing a Netflix egift card so you get at least a year of Netflix. Throughout the year, when you need a few minutes to de-stress, you can turn on Netflix stress-free knowing it’s been paid for! (If you’re curious why Netflix with ads, read the Accessible Core topic to find out.)

The Superpremium

This week’s Superpremium topic is Crayola Experience. This is a kid’s interactive playground centered on Crayola’s famous crayons. There are currently 5 locations nationwide and the 6th is currently being built. This colorful venue is an extremely good deal if you have kids between ages 2-10. My family has an annual pass and we make it worth it within a month of buying it. I’ll break down some of the things to do by age groups, these are my suggestions but it is up to the kids at the end:

All Ages

  1. Model Magic - Crayola’s better version of play-dough. You get tokens to get some free model magic and they have how-to guides on what to make each month. I always try to make miniature animals and foods for my kids.

  2. Chalk Playground - They have a huge area where you and your kids can draw all over with chalk. It can be a bit messy, but staff cleans the chalk area quite often with wet cloths to keep dust to a minimum.

Age 2-4

  1. Toddler’s Playground - This is a favorite for many visitors. It’s an area with a giant peg light board, a play set with 2 slides, and small padded area to run around.

  2. Scribble Scrubbie - You get coupons to redeem Crayola’s animal pets that can be colored with markers and then washed to remove the color. They make great free gifts for your kids to take home to color over and over.

Age 5-6

  1. Arcade - They have Skee-ball, Whack-a-Mole and a few crane games. If you care, Whack-a-Mole gives you the best return on your investment, ticket to quarter ratio.

  2. Tablet Row - There are about 10-12 tablets that the kids can play various games on, color digitally on different mediums with different coloring tools or just feed a pet. It’s a good way if you don’t want to get messy with markers and paint.

Age 7-10

  1. Fashion Runway - You can design a male, female, truck or sedan with color pencils. Then you put it under a computer that scans in what you’ve designed and animates it in 3D on a large screen. It captures the unique drawings quickly and can really allow the older kids to show their artistic skills, or how troll they are.

  2. Big Kid Playground - This jungle gym is much bigger and meant for big kids to run full-speed through a multi-level maze trying to catch each other. Many kids spend a lot of time here as it is one of the few areas that is intended for kids to run. Just be careful, there are big kids running through here and they’ll trample over your little ones without remorse.

The Premium Core

This week’s Premium Core topic is Audible. I’ve never enjoy reading books, especially fiction. I tend to fall asleep staring at books. It isn’t because the books are dull, I just can’t stay awake once I start scanning through the books. As an adult, I found out my eyes have been over-compensating for each other so I get tired easily when reading. It all makes sense now!

The best thing I did was get Audible. I don’t fall asleep to books anymore, I have more time as I can listen everywhere, and I get a history of everything I’ve listened to. I found out I’m a pretty strong auditory learner, and I use it to keep up my Spanish and Vietnamese. The books you buy are linked to your account so you can get them anywhere you have a mobile device.

A big part of mental wealth is knowledge. Knowledge allows us to make better decision by knowing your options and possibilities. It allows us to be able to converse with each other outside of the topic of weather and kids. Audible makes it easy to learn but it can also be quite relaxing. You can listen to motivational books or fiction fantasies while doing house chores. One of my favorite things to do is practice foreign languages while driving, that way most of my drive is productive and I still look like I’m singing to the radio.

I want to give the great experience I’ve had with Audible to you, here’s the deal:

Deal #1: I am offering a $45 Audible Subscription for just $18 on shop.duckytran.com. That’s a 60% discount. There will only be 10 available.

Here are some reminders on deals that are still active:

Deal #2: Any member that refers at least 12 premium members to Ducky Tran in 2023. I will give them 12 months of Ducky Tran Membership for FREE!

Deal #3: Any member that completes Deal #2, will have an opportunity to win $1,000 eGift Card from a drawing in January 2024.

Ads Are Good For Your Health

Other than Super Bowl ads, most of us don’t seek out TV or streaming platform ads to watch. The common thing is most of us would pay more money to not see ads in our shows and movies. However, ads can be good for your health!

According to Forbes, the average American spends 13+ hours each day on digital media, with 3+ hours allocated to video streaming. That means an average American spends over 13% of each day video streaming. Even though watching a few shows here and there can be relaxing and help de-stress your life, the amount an average American spends watching TV or streaming can contribute to more stress in your life.

If you ever wonder “only if I had time”, you probably could have taken it from your streaming time or digital media time.

Or if you ever thought “I only meant to watch one episode, but one thing led to the next, I finished the entire series”. This is binge-watching and it has become extremely common, made even more common since the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Not only can watching too much digital media be a waste of your time, it can be harmful to your health. Many binge watchers tend to have irregular sleep schedules, poor exercise regimens, bad eating habits and less social connections. All of these combine to make a very unhealthy lifestyle that is now fostered by the strong reliance on digital media.

In this study, it shows how binge-watching has become a norm due to streaming services allowing the bypass of advertising. It also mentions how viewers that see ads during a watching session are less likely to continue watching the same show. This is the turning-point that makes ads good for your health.

The average American is so unhealthy, a break in watching a show is not only good for a mental reset but can remind you that you need to go for a jog or eat real food. The study also shows that non-binge watchers are affected by ads more, meaning that we need to watch shows with ads prior to becoming a chronic binge-watcher. Once you are a chronic binge-watcher, it is like any habit, it will be hard to break without forceful intervention.

Reading is the best, listening to audio books is a great compromise, watching shows is the worst when it comes to health and mental wealth, but if you can use ads as a reminder in-between shows, watching shows can truly be a mental reset rather than a detrimental spiral into 10 seasons of Netflix binge-watching. Ads aren’t so bad, so pay less for Netflix and use those ads to be healthy!

Issue 5 Community Poll Results

  1. Half of you voted that you worked out at least once a week, everyone else, including myself are slacking. We’re all potatoes. I was surprised to see no one worked out everyday, but I can’t say much since I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum.

  2. It was 50/50 on back and side sleepers. I think that’s pretty normal, I’m not sure why I expected someone to put they sleep sitting up with eyes open.

  3. I got some feedback about how to grow the community and all of them are similar to what I’ve already have plans but thank you for those that gave feedback. Hope to see many of you at the socials in the near future!

Special Announcement!

I want the community to grow and I want to allow people to see what type of content is being provided without premium members losing their benefits. Therefore, once an issue is 6-weeks old, I will make it public on the website. This week, I’ll be releasing Issue 1. This means the content can be read by the public, but all the major benefits should have already lapsed by then. I did this so the valuable content doesn’t go to waste in the archives.

Happy New Years!

Don’t forget, this is the last time you can submit for the big vacation prize if you haven’t already!
